What is a Vietnamese head spa?

In Vietnam, a relaxing hair wash is a ritual of its own. You lie back on a reclining bed, your head rests over a basin, and the wash turns into a long, slow scalp massage. Moana brings that ritual to Phnom Penh, on a quiet street in Tonle Bassac.

We call ours the ASMR hair wash. The name comes from ASMR, the tingling calm some people feel with soft sounds and slow touch: running water, gentle hands, warm towels. Plan to keep your eyes closed for most of the hour.

What happens during the 60 minutes

• You settle on the reclining hair-spa bed, head resting over the white basin.
• Warm water and shampoo, then a long, slow massage of the scalp.
• Rinse and towel.
• A blow dry, so you leave with clean, soft hair.

Need something quicker? The hair wash & blow dry takes 30 minutes for $6, and the wash, style & blow dry 45 minutes for $8. For color, choose a full hair color ($25 to $35, price confirmed before you start) or a root touch-up from $20.
